Good for the budding enthusiast. But more experienced enthusiast may want to find something more detailed than this.

March: Our product of the month is:....

Lifeboat Heroes by Edward Wake Walker

This book tells the detailed story of 16 of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's most dramatic resuces from its 185 year history. The book covers stories from the begining of the RNLI right up to present day. With the most recent story covered being in 2008. Each story is wonderfully writen, using real life acounts of the event aswell as offical RNLI records. One of the sadest stories in the book from more recently is the tragic acount of the Penlee disaster in 1981.

Overall then this book really should earn a place on any seafarer's bookshelf. Of course it would also be of interest to any historian.

Better still, £1 of the £19.99 RRP goes to help fund the RNLI which relies totally on public donations. For more infomation click on the RNLI tab on the navigation bar.

The Heyday Of Tyseley And Its Locomotives

This book is an interesting photographic album illustrating the history of preservation at Tyseley locomotive sheds. The book contains a good balance of steam and some diesels. The first photos show the working life of Tyseley and goes on to show 'preservation' scenes from the 1960s to the present. The photos aren't just of Tyseley but other railways too where Tyseley engine have visited. There are some really magical shots inside. Well worth the £14.99RRP.

January: This month our product is:.....

          Euro Truck Simulator PC game

This computer game is quite different to most computer driving game where you drive fast cars. In this game you will take to the roads of a reasonably realistic Europe, including the UK in the most recent edition. The driving experience is immersive and in the cab you can pan around taking in the vast detail, which even extends to: a full set of gauges, Temerature and low fuel warning lights, working indicators and wipers. All the trucks you can drive are noticeably based on European prototypes from Scania, Volvo, Renault and Mercedes Benz. However for copyright reasons these are not the names used on the trucks. The game features sofisticated A1 computer controled traffic which is also modeled on European vehicles. The traffic reacts to what the player is doing by beeping the horn or stopping. One disappointment is that all of the towns appear to be very similar with no  distinguishing features. For example in London there is no Big Ben or other recogisable landmarks.

Overall then this game is pretty good but could be improved. If you are particularly interested in high detail then this may not be for you.
